Jen Psaki Leaving White House Press Secretary Role

It should not come as any surprise that White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki is soon to announce her resignation to join MSNBC.  After all, Ms. Psaki was quoted in 2021 as saying, “I don’t want to miss moments. I don’t want to miss things, and I’m very mindful of that as well,” She continued, “It’s a great job. It will be hard, but I also never thought I’d be here, and I also love my kids a lot.”

Emotional Intelligence Lens

Putting an emotional intelligence lens on this decision is easy when you consider the daily demands and pressures of the job.  Couple that with the fact she has two young children, three and six with her husband of eleven years.  Seeking the bigger picture, which is a relationship management strategy in EQ, has allowed the Press Secretary to step back and look at her personal life and career from a holistic perspective. She has also been quoted in the past as saying that someone else will be ready to take on the responsibility when it is the right time for her to move on.  One can tell Ms. Psaki has a strong self-awareness in that her values shine and are at the forefront of her decisions.  Allowing yourself to stick to your beliefs help in making tough decisions such as this.

Takeaways

So, what can we take away from this?  First off, know that trusting in your values allows you to have a place to refer to when emotions come into your decision making.  They ground you and allow you to ask yourself the right questions to make the proper decision.  Second, when you seek the whole picture, you look at how others are feeling and what they are needing.   Allow yourself to step back and consider more than your feelings and emotions in the important decisions.
